Revlon Photo Ready Perfecting Primer

Revlon Photo Ready Perfecting Primer - you can pick this at Boots here

I actually won this primer in a Glamour competition and generally isn't the type of product I would usually pick up. I can't really say that I primers in my usual make up routine and so wouldn't ever think of picking one up.

Boots says:

'Lightweight primer smoothes and softens skin to create the perfect canvas. Reduces the appearance of pores and fine lines. Wear alone or under foundation. Lights, camera, PhotoReady!'

This product feels so soft to the skin and applies really nicely. If your in need of a primer, I can't see why this wouldn't do the job but for me, really I feel as though its really an unnecessary step in my make-up routine. I felt exactly the same when I used the Benefit Porefessional... I don't know. I just really don't get the need for these. Perhaps I'm applying it wrong. If anyone could shed any light on this, definitely let me know!

Have you tried this product?

Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Treatment Cream

Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Treatment Cream -£6.39 at Boots

Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Treatment Cream is currently my blemish cream of choice, although I cannot compare it to that many as my blemish cream repertoire isn't actually that large! I bought this one after having one that really just did nothing for me and it has pretty much done the job. Luckily, I can say my skin isn't blemish prone (touch wood!) and so don't really have much of a need for a product like this - but it's always good to have one to hand and still doesn't stop me wanting more... (Currently lusting after Origins Super Spot Remover Blemish Treatment Gel which can be found online here at Boots! or on their site here)

Boots says:

Visibly reduces spot size and redness in as little as four hours. Using Clearasil's Acceladerm technology, it opens up blocked pores and deeply delivers spot fighting ingredients.'

I can't say whether this would work for everyone, but for me I'm pretty sure it did. I wouldn't sing it's praises but then again I don't really have a bad word to say about it either. A bit of a 'meh' product I think...

Will still be searching for a better product!

What blemish gels/creams have worked for you? Have you tried this product?

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain - £7.99 at Boots

I'm sure you've all heard so much about these Revlon lip products as they have been around for a while now, so I wont go on too much about it. The first thing I will say about this is that I think I picked up the wrong colour for me as orange just doesn't work with my skin tone  I feel that because of this it is very unlikely that I will ever use this product.

The product itself is like a tinted lip balm or a very sheer lipstick. It is buildable and so the colour payout can be made slightly more intense if you wish. I really like the texture of the lip balm and if it wasn't for the colour I would probably wear it although there is one other part that I can't really deal with about this product and that is the smell. To me it smells like dirt mixed with mint and although I had heard this about this product prior to purchasing it, I thought I'd be able to get past it and use it anyway but honestly, I just cant. The scent is just so strong and I really can't get past it. It could be different if I had a nicer shade that suited me better but as I don't this is all I have to go on and really I don't want to risk buying another to not like it also.

Have you tried this product? What did you think?

Anukis Sugar Paste Strong Natural Hair Removal

I was given the Anukis Sugar Paste Strong Natural Hair Removal to review by the lovely ladies at Baobella (where I'm currently interning, read more here). I was a bit sceptical at first but the beauty lover in me also couldn't wait to give the product a go.

Beauty Sugaring is a 100% natural way of hair removal. It is an ancient technique, used by the likes of Cleopatra and has been passed down onto today. Sugaring is a gentler and more natural alternative to other hair removal techniques such as waxing. The technique is actually very similar to waxing it is just the components that are different. The only ingredients within the sugar paste are the natural components of sugar, citric acid and water! So you would not be using any of those nasties on your skin like you would be doing with wax.

So I bet your wondering really why you would use this instead of wax. I have been testing this product out and it really is worth it! For those with sensitive skin, it is great as there are no harmful side effects like there possibly could be with waxing. It is more hygienic and it removes the hairs in a much easier way. The sugar wraps around the hair shaft and reaches inside the follicles to encourage the extraction of the hair, where as sometimes when using wax the hair can break making it impossible to extract the hair. Sugar Paste can be used with hairs as little as 2mm where as wax would not be able to remove this.

With all its plus points, I can imagine that this will definitely be my hair removal technique of choice.

You can pick up the Anukis Sugar Paste Strong here.

Crystal Clear Skincare

I previously wrote about the Crystal Clear Skincare Event that I attended. You can read the post here. I made sure I spent a little while testing it out before reviewing.

I was a little unsure about how these products would work for me as obviously they are not directed at myself, as really I don't need an anti-ageing products quite yet.

My favourite product out of the bunch would have to be the cleansing milk. It says it is great for dry/dehydrated skin and that is my skin type. I love using this instead of my beloved Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish as I find that if I use one product too much, I just don't get quite the same effects as my skin gets too used to it. I apply it in a similar way to my cleanse and polish and take it off using a warm muslin cloth.

The other two products I would say really aren't directed at me and I'll probably pass these on to my Mum.

Lift Away The Years is an anti-ageing applicator that is clinically proven to increase skin firmness by 45% with instantaneous results. This is such an interesting contraption that was so unlike anything I have ever seen before. I had never thought of using something to apply my moisturiser/serum! It applies the product to your skin using a vibrating roller ball wand. It's so strange and something that would definitely take some getting used to. Obviously, this isn't directed at me so honestly I didn't really notice any results. I found the product to be a little bit sticky but as I have said it is just not meant to work with my skin. So even though I don't particularly like the product, it could work really well for you! Skincare is so subjective, so it's really hard to write about sometimes. If your looking for something like this though, I can definitely see how it'd work great for some.

Have you ever tried Crystal Clear? What age did you start using anti-ageing products?

Butter London Nail Lacquer in Posh Bird - Exclusive to Boots

Butter London Polish in Posh Bird* - £12 Exclusive to Boots

Butter London polishes are now stocking in Boots stores, Nationwide and to go alongside this collaboration they have brought out this lovely polish that is exclusive to Boots.

Posh Bird is a smokey mushroom polish with silver microglitter.

This polish was inspired by femininity, but they have added an unexpected edge. It is purple polish with a subtle silver shimmer running through it. Just like with the other metallic polishes from the Summer Holiday Collection, I didn't expect to like it but it looks amazing in the light.

The formulation is much like all of the other Butter London polishes; easy to apply and very quick drying. The polish is opaque in two coats.

Have you tried any Butter London polishes? Will you be picking any up now they're in Boots?

Tweezerman Polka Dot Mini Slant Tweezer

Tweezerman Polka Dot Mini Slant Tweezer - £14.50 at Boots

These are my holy grail tweezers. I wouldn't say tweezers are talked about as much on the blogosphere as they could possibly be but really I don't think they need to be. I've tried plenty of other tweezers before and really I think the best ones are the ones you get use to. I used to love shop's own branded ones before I tried these. I did buy the Benefit for Tweezerman ones but sent them back as I just couldn't justify the price but quite quickly after regretted this and picked these ones up.

I was going to purchase the full size ones but the Boots store I was in when I decided to pick some up didn't have a massive selection and if I remember right, I wanted some urgently. I think the only normal sized ones there didn't really appeal to me and were far to expensive for what I was looking for and then I saw these babies... Beautiful lilac polka dot from a well known and well loved brand, who wouldn't want a pair! I fell in love with them as soon as I tried them and really I haven't looked back since. If I ever need to repurchase, I would definitely pick them up from Tweezerman again. Would definitely recommend them!

Press Day at the Academy of Freelance Make Up

Last week I headed down to the Academy of Freelance Make Up for a Fashion related press day that they had going on. I was really interested to see the pieces they had and see the AOFM.

They were showing a mixture of collections from Alexander Harper, eugene.lin, Jaida Hay and Alice Palmer. A very different group of collections but very interesting to see none the less. My favourite would have to be eugene.lin's collection (the bottom, left hand corner image) as the prints are amazing!

I also was lucky enough to have my make up done too!

We opted for black eye liner with a lovely flick, a bit of a shadow, and a bright red lip using MAC in MAC Red. Feeling as though I need to buy it after seeing how lovely it is!

Butter London Summer Holiday Collection

Butter London Summer Holiday Collection Polishes*
Poole, Sunbaker, Bit Faker, Marbs, Champers
£12

The Summer Holiday Collection is the upcoming collection from Butter London. The shades are designed to work well with sun-kissed skin and the sun itself. A collection full of metallics, glitter and a turquoise, there is a shade for everyone in this collection. I've previously wrote about the event on my blog and in an article on Baobella.

Butter London polishes are free from DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde. They apply so well, very smooth and streak free and dry unbelievably quickly. I'm not really one for painting my nails that often as sometimes it just feels like a chore but with the ease of application and short drying time with these polishes, I will definitely be having more of a go with these!

When first seeing this collection I didn't really think that the metallic shades were really to my taste although I did love Bit Faker and Poole - a lot more up my street. But, it wasn't until I actually applied the polish to my nails until I really realised how great they all were! They shine so beautifully in the sun, and I can really see why Butter London have chosen them for their Holiday collection... Excuse my while I pop them in my Holiday make up bag!

L-R     Bit Faker, Champers, Marbs, Sunbaker, Poole

Bit Faker

Every girl loves a good glitter polish! I'm usually one to go for a much brighter shade as they usually stand out to me when shopping but I am so glad I now have this one in my collection. It only takes two coats to be opaque - absolutely amazing for a glitter polish! And it dries very quickly. The bronze shade is much more wearable than a bright glitter so I can imagine I'll get a lot more use out of it as it literally does go with everything.

Champers

As I mentioned previously, I really didn't expect to like this polish but after swatching it I love it! It is quite a subtle metallic shade and works really well with my skin tone. Just like Bit Faker, it's very wearable and would go with everything. This looks absolutely stunning in the light, you need to try it to understand it's true beauty!

Marbs

Just like with Champers, I really didn't expect to like this. The gold polish looks absolutely amazing in the light, the pictures really don't do it justice.

Sunbaker

Probably my least favourite out of the collection, although I do love it a lot more than I first expected after swatching - just like with the others. A lovely copper orange shade that reflects just as nicely in the light as Marbs and Champers.

Poole

This has got to be my favourite in the collection! An African turquoise with no shimmer is right up my street. I am a lover of this mint green shade and the formulation of these polishes means that it's got to be a new favourite of mine. The polish was opaque in one coat, amazing!

It seems that Butter London may be my new favourite quality nail polish brand. The quality of the polishes are unreal. They are quite a bit more expensive than a normal high street nail polish but I really can see why. If I'm ever feeling like treating myself then I'm sure I'll be heading straight for the Butter London stand in Boots.

This collection will be available to buy in August, and the Butter London range can now be bought in Boots! Take a look at their range here

30 Ways To Save £1

I have been invited by Money Supermarket to take part in this blog post 'tag'; 30 ways to save £1! It's such a fun idea and as a student myself, I am always looking for ways to save money so I really can't wait to read other people's ideas. So here goes....

  1. Try and use up a product you have already before buying a new one. One in, one out?
  2. Think about whether you really need something before buying it. We all have that product or item of clothing that we have never worn right?
  3. Utilise the way you use your products, read my post here and find out how!
  4. Do you have loads of unwanted and unused beauty products or clothes? Have a blog sale, someone might want what you don't.
  5. Before buying something online, always check to see whether there is a discount code or on websites like Buyapowa and Wowcher.
  6. Try and pick up a sample of a product you want to buy before buying it, that way you'll know you like it and won't have that dreaded feeling when you hate a product you have spent so much on.
  7. Rather than eating out wherever you fancy, find a discount voucher online, sometimes places over amazing deals!
  8. Charity Shops! Rather than scouring Topshop, why not take a look in your local charity shops? I have found some gems in there myself for crazy prices and of course, it's going to a good cause!
  9. If you are a Student, make sure you've always got your Student card on you! The discount is great.
  10. If you are spending a lot of money in a certain place, why not try and get a job there? Not only will you love it and be earning money, you'll be getting a great staff discount too!
  11. Rather than ordering in a takeaway, why not make a takeaway inspired meal yourself? Chances are it's going to be much better for you and way cheaper too!
  12. Always bring food with you to work or University rather than buying food there, it can save you so much money!
  13. Make Tea's and Coffees there rather than buying expensive ones from Costa.
  14. If you make a big meal and don't eat it all, keep it for leftovers, it can taste better the next day sometimes!
  15. Basics brands are seriously okay! In some cases they are a very similar product but it can save you so much!
  16. Shop around and find out where the cheapest supermarket is. Sainsbury's is the closest to me but it's so pricey! Ordering online from ASDA is so much cheaper as delivery works out so cheap at only a few pound - you can also order in a group saving more!
  17. Have a look at your local green grocers, often the fruit and vegetables are much cheaper than the normal supermarkets, and usually much better quality too.
  18. Follow this Facebook Page, their posts are genius! See it here
  19. Pre-drink! Who's with me?
  20. On a night out, if you have far to travel, take a bottle with you for the journey and buy less or no drinks out!
  21. When on a night out, don't take your bank card with you! You definitely wouldn't think that getting all the rounds in and spending all your money would be a good idea if you had a sober mind!
  22. Get a Rail Card! I save so much money through going home using mine.
  23. If you cant afford to travel by train however, you can always get a much cheaper rate by travelling by coach.
  24. If you live in London, make sure you've got an oyster card and if you have a travel card you can merge the two together for even better discount!
  25. Do you really need to watch TV live? Save money and watch Catch Up TV for free online, no need for a TV licence here!
  26. Buy a Printer! Having my own printer has saved me so much time, money and effort! I can print in the safety of my own room without having to go to the library to print at a cost.
  27. Never pay full prices for Theatre or Theme Park tickets, there's always some sort of discount somewhere. This is the same for the Cinema. Hello Orange Wednesdays!
  28. Perhaps you could walk instead of getting the bus? Would save you a little each time!
  29.  Ebay! Not only can you sell things but you can also pick things up at bargain prices. Do you remember that dress you wanted ages ago but regretted not buying? Chances are that it'll be on here for cheaper!
  30. If your not loving that item of clothing like you used to but really can't throw it away, then perhaps you could customise or change it? Perhaps make those old jeans into shorts or add studs to that jacket you weren't so keen on! Customisation is key!
I really hope you liked this post and I'd love it if you'd leave your money saving tips below!

I'd also love it if you would take part! Link your posts and ideas below :)

Butter London Event

I went along to the Butter London event for Baobella, where I am currently interning. An evening filled with manicures, nail polish, cocktails and canapés, what more could a girl want?

We were there to find out about their new upcoming Summer Holiday Collection and a new limited edition polish that is only available in Boots.

I spent most of the time telling people about Baobella, but you should all know about it now - you can read my post on the website here! You should all go join, it's great fun.

I got my nails done by the lovely Lola! I opted for a cream and navy blue nail art manicure. There were so many great ones to choose from - I just couldn't decide but chose something in the end that would go with everything. I was pretty worried at first about ruining them as I am such a clutz when doing my nails usually but I really didn't have to worry. They dried so quickly! I literally couldn't believe it. I am a definite Butter London convert.

I was very generously given a goody bag with all of the new polishes including the limited edition polish for Boots. I will post about them soon!

Hairspray and Lipstick Academy Event: Cara Delevingne Spring/Summer Inspired Look

Last week, I took a trip down to the Hairspray and Lipstick Academy for an event they were having to show us the Academy and what they were doing there. It was really interesting to hear about the Academy and meet the make up artists behind it.

The Academy is currently running discounted courses if you book for May, you can take a look at the website here and see the different courses they run.

I had my make-up by the lovely Eva, we opted for a Cara Delevingne Spring/Summer look.

Eva taught me so much in the time she was doing my make up, she used such a mixture of products for different things and now I know I'll get much more use out of my products.

You can read about how we achieved this look here for an article I wrote for Baobella

Here's the finished look:

I was so happy with the outcome as it really isn't a look I would usually go for. I usually opt for eye around the eyes and a statement lip so this definitely made a nice change. I would never have thought of using a lip contour pencil for the brows or a lip gloss to create a highlighter. Eva told us that as long as the shade is right you can use a product in anyway you like, that way you get more use out of the products you do have and don't have to spend unnecessary amounts on new shades of different products. Tip of the day for you there!

Would you go on a make up course?

POP PR Press Day: Cosmetics A La Carte

Last week, I headed down to the POP PR Press Day as I knew that A La Carte Cosmetics were going to be there and I was so interested in what they do.

A La Carte are a bespoke make up brand that tailors their make up to you. Whether it's blending a foundation to your skin tone and texture, creating that perfect shade lipstick or eye shadow etc, or creating that perfect compact - they do it all! They can also reformulate a foundation if your skin doesn't work well with an ingredient or even better, if you have that beloved discontinued product (lipsticks etc. ) then you can take the packaging or a little of the product and they can copy and remake it for you!

Obviously this all comes at a price but really, it sounds like it could definitely be worth it. I actually met a lovely blogger the other day that used it herself!

Have you heard of A La Carte before? Have you tried any of their products?

Neal's Yard Remedies

Neals Yard Remedies    Beauty Sleep Concentrate* - £31.50, Geranuim & Orange Body Balm* - £29.50,   Plum Lip Gloss* - £9.50

I was recently invited down to the Neal's Yard Remedies Camden store for the opening of their Treatment rooms. I had heard of Neal's Yard before, I was just yet to try it and was very excited to hear more about it.

The evening included a cheeky Indian Head Massage, wine and plenty of browsing their products. The store was small and beautiful and was filled with products with their signature blue packaging. It was beautiful! We were talked through the products and the heritage of the brand, they have been around since 1981! - I absolutely love that they still sell their natural herbal remedies.

The store owner was lovely, and so was the lovely lady that gave me an Indian head massage. I know that if I want to try anything out I will pop down to this store. Great customer service makes all the difference.

I was lucky enough to be given a few products to try out to introduce myself to the brand and their products.

This is a night moisturiser/concentrate that is easily absorbed into the skin, it supports your skin's natural night time regeneration and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As someone with quite dry and dehydrated skin, I was a little apprehensive about this product. I am forever loving my Clinique Moisture Surge and couldn't imagine using anything that would meet up to it. You cannot compare the products, they are so different but I do like both of them. This is a little less moisturising than I would normally use, but I do still really like it. I love using it on those days that you don't need as much moisture or will use it after a different serum or moisturiser. The scent is lovely, it's great to put on before bed as it is one of those scents that just help you sleep. So if you have trouble sleeping or are looking for a new night product, then you should definitely give this a go. Plus, the packaging is beautiful! Who wouldn't want this on their dressing table?

When seeing this product in store, I knew instantly that I wanted to try it. I hadn't used a body balm before, but after seeing this I was really intrigued and definitely wanted too. Luckily enough, this was in the goody bag and I really couldn't wait to try it. The product is a lot different to a moisturiser as the product is a lot more of a hard and oily consistency. It is meant to restore vibrancy and nourish dull or dry skin. I wasn't too sure on the scent at first but the more I have used the product, the more I have grown to love the scent. It is really moisturising, although it does take a bit more time to use and apply than a usual moisturiser does.

I'm not really much of a lip gloss wearer, so I can't really say too much about this. It contains antioxidant white tea and a minimum of 92% organic ingredients including their beauty oil and organic sweet orange oil! Unlike a normal lip gloss, these are formulated to nourish, nurture and protect while still having the same glossy properties a normal lip gloss would have. The lip gloss has a lovely shimmer running through it, that looks lovely in the light. Again, this isn't something I would wear but if you like shimmer then this is definitely great for you!

All I can say is after trying these products, I absolutely love Neal's Yard Remedies and I can't wait to try some more of their products.

Have you tried Neal's Yard before? What are your favourite products?

Shoot Me Fab

Last weekend I headed down to the Looking Great Salon for the Shoot Me Fab event.

Fancy the chance to win a goody bag yourself? The event was sort a of competition too, vote for me here by liking the page and clicking vote on one of my pictures, I'd really appreciate it! By voting you have the chance to win a goody bag for yourself too!

A day filled with champagne, makeovers, sushi, cupcakes and goody bags galore!

The theme of the shoot was New Bourgeoise, I'm not going to lie, I really didn't know what to expect! We were told to wear something classic so I opted for a white sheer shirt, black leggings/trousers and a red velvet shirt on top.

Our makeovers consisted of getting our hair and make up done. I absolutely loved my hair. I'm quite lazy when it comes to hair styling, I seem to always focus on my make up and clothes and totally forget about my hair and so to have the chance to have it styled was perfect for me. We opted for a side parting with big waves/curls. A lot different from my usual naturally dried straight hair!

For the make up, again this was a lot different to what I was used to. I usually go for quite a natural look with not much base. In fact, this must have been the first time I have ever worn foundation. I'm usually a BB Cream or Tinted Moisturiser kind of girl. The coverage was a lot more than I was used to but it worked well in the images. Saharalah used Cover FX products.

Just like for this look I usually opt for something less on the eyes and more of a bold lip. The lovely Paula, did my eyes and lips, opting for just mascara and a little shadow on the eyes and a bold red on the lips. She chose a Sleek lipstick in Cherry! Feeling as though I need to add this one to my red lipstick collection, although I do usually prefer a darker and slightly bolder red.

We then had to have our pictures taken. Feeling a little uncomfortable - so not used to being in this position. Taking pictures of yourself is so much more different! You can see Allie in the images below having her photos taken. We were both as uncomfortable as each other, not knowing what to do with our lips!

Want to see the finished pictures? I look so different!

There's a couple of the final images! Hope you like them.

Georgina and I finished off the day sharing a couple of the beautiful cupcakes! They were delicious!

I had such a lovely day and I met some lovely ladies. Check out all of their blogs here: Allie, Stacey and Georgina. - if you love reading mine, you'll love reading theirs too!

So, as I mentioned at the top of the post this is actually sort of a competition. You can vote for me here and also bag yourself the chance to win a goody bag! Trust me, they're good!

Let me know what you think of the pictures and if you decide to vote!

Avene Eau Thermale

Avene Eau Thermale at Boots - 50ml or 150ml

Avene Eau Thermale has got to be my go to product for the summer, (maybe it's wishful thinking that it will be coming soon!? We want the sun!). I always wondered why there was such a hype around this product but as soon as I used this in the hot weather (I'm talking about the crazy Zante heat I was experiencing last summer) I completely understood and I definitely fell in love right on the spot.

Boot's says:

' Avene Thermal Spring Water contains a unique active ingredient, renowned by dermatologists for its soothing properties. This facial spray is great in hot weather or for soothing irritated skin or sunburn.'

I have a couple of the small 50ml bottles of this and when the weather hots up I usually carry one around in my bag, I also took them both with me on Holiday - literally a life saver product! I use it when it's just too hot and it cools me down instantly. It's refreshing and does exactly what it says it does. I also used this when unfortunately I got a little sunburnt at the end of my holiday... (I had got a little lax in applying my factor 50 as I was hoping for a bit more of a tan, big mistake as this made the flight home that bit more horrendous. Burnt thighs and sticky leather seats just don't mix!) and this product just helped soothe the irritation, even if it was just while I was spraying and for a short while after. Its that immediate effect that your after when you use a product like this. Also, there is no scent so you don't have to worry about coming out smelling like anything specific either.

I don't think I could recommend this product any more, although I can't say I've got any use out of it while the weather has been as depressing as it has. As soon as the sun comes out, I will be swapping the gloves out of my handbag for my sunnies and this beautiful product!

Have you tried this product? What do you think of it?

Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Mulberry

Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Mulberry - £4.99 at Superdrug

I originally bought this Lipstick around Halloween time. I hadn't decided what I was going to dress up as (post on that here!) but as I had been loving the darker lipsticks and in the Halloween spirit I decided to pick this up.

Mulberry is a very dark purple shaded lipstick. It is a sheen finish lipstick which means it is very moisturising on the lips. I think I go through phases of loving different formula's of lipstick and usually I love quite a matte finish, but I think with the colder weather around it has been making me like a much more moisturising finish to them.

I can't say I've ventured out in this lipstick too much... actually the only time I have worn it yet is on Halloween but I wouldn't put that down to the product at all but the way I am currently storing it. I can't wait to move out of Halls or even just have a little bit of time to sort through it all and store it in a better way to allow myself to use the products I just keep forgetting about.

Here is a little shot of me wearing the lipstick, I'm sure you've all seen this picture before but I thought I'd show it again just for the purpose of the lip swatch.

Have you tried any sleek lipsticks? What are your favourite shades?
