Stockholm City Guide: What To Do In Stockholm

Weekend breaks are my absolute favourite kind of holiday. Wandering around a new city - eating, drinking, browsing - no rushing. It's just wonderful. My latest break was in Stockholm and it's what inspired me to write this post. I read up a lot of the city beforehand, but there were so many amazing parts and places that I hadn't read about, that you just must visit if you go. 

We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights, in late November and it was the perfect amount of time. It was cold, but to be honest, if you live in England it's nothing that you wouldn't have experienced before. Just wrap up with a hat, scarf and gloves and pick up some hand warmers (we bought these from Amazon) before you go - they are a lifesaver! 

I had heard a lot before I went about how expensive the trip was going to be, so that wasn't a surprise when I got there, but one thing I would say is that it's always worth it (perhaps beer excluded, it's far more expensive and they are far smaller than you'd get here in the UK, but when in Stockholm, eh!). I brought a lot of cash with me, which of course I managed to find a way to spend, but it is worth noting that a lot of bars and restaurants don't take cash, so make sure to plan that into your cash budget.   

Where to stay in Stockholm 

When I'm deciding where to go on holiday (and eventually where to stay), I usually spend a lot of time browsing on websites like Secret Escapes, Voyage Prive and Chic Retreats. It's important to find a hotel that I'm going to enjoy staying in - but always for a good price. This time I booked our mini break on Secret Escapes and we chose to stay in the incredible Grand Central by Scandic in Norrmalm. It's a New York inspired hotel, picture neon slogans and music inspired artwork and you're there. If you're a music fan, you'll love it here. 

Grand Central by Scandic is located in Norrmalm - basically the city centre of Stockholm. Stockholm isn't big and incredibly easy to get around so don't worry to much about the location you stay in but if you can, I'd definitely recommend staying here. It's the hub for shopping in Stockholm and although it may not have been good for my bank balance, it was incredible to be so close to the action. The hotel is also right by the drop off point for Stockholm's answer to the 'Gatwick Express' as it can take you only 20 minutes on the train to the airport. 

In the hotel, there is a large beautiful lobby pictured above - and is the perfect spot for a leisurely drink, they also have a small area for live music. There's also a restaurant and coffee shop/bar - all so beautiful we fell in love very quickly. Breakfast was included with our stay every morning. A usual buffet style affair, but the food was delicious. We often opted for bread, cheese, meat for my boyfriend and pickles - but there was some incredible granola and cooked options too. All delicious. 

The last thing to note, was that the service was pretty great. We were visiting Stockholm for my boyfriend's birthday and I let them know this before. Upon arrival, the brought us a gorgeous fruit basket and champagne to the room with a little birthday note - such a lovely touch. 

Getting around in Stockholm

I'm usually an uber kind of girl when in a new city. Mostly because of the unknown of where on earth I am, but this time I steered clear as it just wasn't necessary. Stockholm isn't that big so really, you can walk around most of it if you're not in a rush. If you do need to get anywhere faster though, the public transport is so easy. I swore by City Mapper on my trip here (as I do for basically every day of my life in London) but it just made getting around so much easier to tell us our routes direct. We mostly opted for either walking all the way, or taking the underground, boat or tram part of the way and walking the rest - that's how you see so much of the city. 

What to do in Stockholm 

Now this part I want you to take with a pinch of salt. Yes there are some incredible must-visits in Stockholm but some of our 'best bits' where the times we stumbled upon hidden gems, while we wandered the beautiful streets of the city. 

Museums and galleries

Museums and galleries were a massive high point of our trip. There are some really great ones to pop in and see, and generally, these were what inspired our strolls to find some of our favourite spots. 

Fotographiska 

If you're into photography, the Fotographiska gallery is a must visit. They have different exhibitions on all the time, but I was blown away by the incredible quality of the imagery alongside the space itself. When I visited, there were three different exhibitions on, all with captions also included in English, and I adored it. After a browse of the gallery, we popped up to the restaurant for a quick pit stop and it was incredible. We stopped only for a drink but the food looked delicious. Although we didn't visit, I hear that Hermans is a a great option for lunch nearby if you're in the market. It's a veggie buffet and supposed to be great, especially if you're on a budget. 

Moderna Museet 

The Moderna Museet - Stockholm's answer to a modern art gallery - is a must see if you are into your art. A lovely gallery, not too huge filled with some amazing pieces. From Picasso, to Matisse and from Warhol to Tanning. There are some incredible pieces to see. It's also free entry to the main collection, so a great thing to do if you're on a budget. The shop is also pretty great too. 

SpritMuseum 

The Spirit Museum was one of the more unexpected highlights of our trip. Though we adore our drinks and love browsing the spirit aisles in the supermarket and round duty free, we hadn't pegged this as a must see on our trip. If you're visiting the Vasamuseet, this is just round the corner so I'd definitely recommend taking a trip there too. A really interesting selection of exhibitions from the history of Champagne to a sensory experience of spirits, and a really lovely bar. Take a rest here before or after you browse the exhibitions, but make sure to order the cheese and honeycomb for a pick-me-up. It's delicious! They also do a really incredible spirit 'tasting board'. 

Vasamuseet

Whether or not this kind of thing is usually your cup of tea, I'd really recommend coming along as this really blew me away. The Vasa Museum shows the worlds only preserved 17th century ship - it capsized and sunk in Stockholm in 1628 and after 333 years, it was salvaged and preserved to the ship we can see in the museum today. The scale of this within the museum space is truly incredible. Highly recommend, even just for a bit!

Historiska Museet 

Probably my least favourite out of all of the museums we visited, (though I expect Joe - my boyfriend - would tell you differently) but if you're into history and history museums especially, it's worth a visit. There's a whole section on the vikings that's pretty good. It's free entry, so if you're in the area definitely pop in for a browse. 

Shopping

Stockholm is absolutely incredible for shopping. There's a few key places I'd suggest to visit but otherwise, just roam around as there are super lovely shops hidden round so many corners. If you love the Scandi look - whether that's within your home or wardrobe, then there's going to be something you're going to fall in love with. I had to restrain myself from buying everything. 

Weekday

Weekday is becoming more known and more widely available in the UK but I fell hook, line and sinker for the Weekday stores in Stockholm. There was one just down the road from our hotel and we visited it several times because it was just so blooming good. They also have their 'Zeitgeist' range - weekly screen printed t-shirts, each reflecting on a current event from that week. I adore this idea, and we found the stores had a few available sizes in prints from previous weeks. I picked up an incredible one, and I'm sure you'll see it on my Instagram soon. They are also incredible for knitwear, I'm already planning to buy more - oopsie. 

Monki

Again, much like Weekday, Monki is fast becoming one of my favourite shops in the UK, but again like Weekday in Stockholm, there are so many amazing physical stores like my favourite on Carnaby Street - but they're much bigger. If you're already picking up some bits when doing your usual ASOS shop, you need to pop in for some new, affordable garms. 

Nitty Gritty 

A bit of a mix of everything, Nitty Gritty in Sodermalm is the perfect store to visit with your boyfriend. It's split into two shops - one for Women, and one for Men with an amazing magazine and book shop in the middle (onto that one in a minute) but if you want to browse some incredible quality Scandi pieces (clothes, beauty, shoes etc.) then it's definitely worth a trip here.

Papercut

This was one of the places I'd read about a lot online before I came. Everyone had recommended it. Papercut is a small-ish magazine and book store and if this is your thing, then this is THE ultimate store to visit. My boyfriend can spend hours browsing the magazine and book racks at stores in the UK so I just knew this was a must visit for us. The store includes a mix of Swedish and English books, so perfect for browsing and picking up some hard-to-find gems that you would struggle to find in the UK.

Designtorget 

This was one of my absolute favourite homeware shops in Stockholm. There's lots of them dotted around Stockholm but we were lucky enough to have one near our hotel - again much like Weekday, this was one we visited on the regular because it was so cool. Filled with lots of knick knacks and home goods, designed beautifully, this was an easy store to spend in. 

H&M Home

Again, this is something we do definitely have here but I just fell for the H&M Home standalone stores in Stockholm. They just know how to do homeware affordably, and I couldn't help but picking up a few things. If you're obsessed with the home sections in our H&M stores in the UK but like me, never feel like they're big enough, then you're in luck. Get ready for homeware heaven. 

MOOD Stockholm 

If you go at this time of year, this shopping centre is a must visit. Stepping into MOOD Stockholm feels like your stepping into Christmas, because boy do they know how to decorate. Whether or not you're into the shops (though you should be, there's some incredible stores to take a look round) just come in here for a wander. It's truly so beautifully decorated you would really miss it if you didn't pop in. They have some really lovely restaurants inside for lunch too (more on that, later) , plus the bakery in here was where I picked up the most incredible cinnamon bun.

Where to eat in Stockholm 

I always judge a city based on how great their food and drink is. Stockholm did not disappoint. There are so many incredible and fresh flavours in all of the food, I couldn't help but fall in love. As always, I did quite a lot of research before I left - reading blogs, watching YouTube videos all about the best places to eat in Stockholm. I came armed with a list, and while I did visit one on the list, I'm actually glad we ventured a bit further and tried a few other places as they weren't always as good as expected. 

Pelican Restaurant was our biggest mistake - I had read about it everywhere and had heard such great things so we made sure we went there, though however I have to say it was quite disappointing. Yes the food was fairly nice and the portion size great, but was it any better than anything else we'd had? No, in fact it didn't even come close. So if you're taking a trip soon, I'd suggest maybe giving it a miss and trying something else. 

Nalen Restaurant 

Nalen Restaurant in Norrmalm was the first restaurant we visited and I actually would say it was one of my favourites from the whole trip. We booked ahead and upon arrival fell in love with the place. It felt like the perfect date night venue and the perfect way to start our trip. We ordered a selection of things from the menu, several of their small appetisers, a 'smorgasboard' to start as this was the perfect way to try out several of Stockholm's delicacies to start the holiday. I had the Fish Casserole and Joe had the meatballs and both were absolutely incredible. They also give out the most delicious complimentary bread with your drinks. This meal was faultless and I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I had the opportunity in the future. This is a must visit if you want to try out Swedish cuisine in Norrmalm. 

Barobao 

Up with Nalen, this was one of my favourite meals of our trip. Barobao is a Swedish and Asian fusion Bao restaurant, and oh my god was it incredible. We stumbled upon this in Sodermalm after a visit to Nitty Gritty and Papercut in one of those 'hangry' moments where you think you'll never find anything. We ordered several bao, some with meat, some veggie and some veg sides. The bao were the star of the show, so if we went again we'd probably just order a few more to try. They were INCREDIBLE plus the design of the restaurant was beautiful. 

Miss Clara by Nobis

Miss Clara by Nobis is actually a hotel in Norrmalm, but the restaurant inside was really lovely, and the decor and menu attracted us to it. It was nice and quiet the night we went which was ideal. Great wines, and great food and if they have the Cauliflower on the menu, you need to order it with a side of the truffle fries. Incredible. 

Cafe Egoiste

Egoiste was a lovely lunch spot in MOOD Stockholm. We chose to sit here for the absolutely beautiful festive setting in the mall but weren't at all disappointed by the food or drink. I had a beautiful fish dish while Joe had an omelette and both made for a great lunch before we finished our trip. It very much got me in the mood for Christmas. If you're looking for a slightly quieter option in the shopping centre, this is a great shout. 

Espresso House 

If you're looking for a pit stop around Stockholm, the likely hood is that you'll spot an Espresso House. It's basically the Starbucks or Costa Coffee of Stockholm but so much nicer. The interior is what got us to go in in the first place as it looked so cosy and we weren't disappointed by the drinks either. We started and finished our holiday here with a hot chocolate and the friendly service made us feel so at home. 

My final thoughts... 

Honestly, if you're planning a trip to Stockholm take note of a few places which caught your eye but don't necessarily live by it. Wander around, that's where we fell in love with the city and had the greatest times - and if you have any recommendations, let me know in the comments below for when I go back - because I truly fell in love with the city.

The Ultimate Festival Checklist: What To Pack For Bestival

It’s Bestival next week and as you can probably tell I’ll be heading there this year - and I’m so blooming excited. I love writing festival content every year but this year, usually my favourite beauty products to take with me... but this year I’ve decided to take it a step further to write my ultimate festival checklist for girls.

I remember when I bought my first tickets to a festival where you actually had to camp – Glastonbury, in fact, you’ll probably remember from this VLOG, and I cannot tell you the amount of times I googled a billion different phrases to work out what on earth I should be taking with me. And for someone that hadn’t put up a tent or camped before, I pretty much had nothing to go on. That’s why after a couple of years of going, I feel like I’ve worked out the ultimate festival checklist for what you should take, but if I’ve forgotten anything – please do drop me a tweet or let me know in the comments  - I will thank you forever. Also, please excuse my excessive beauty list. I don’t pack light – not even for a festival, as much as I might try to.

Beauty Essentials

• Your usual makeup bag filled with your favourites

The first year I went to a festival I skipped out on some makeup favourites in fear I’d loose or ruin them but I missed them too much, so just take what you want to take. It can be replaced if it REALLY has to be. Essentials coming with me include my new favourite base, the IT Cosmetics CC Cream for a flaweless but natural coverage with SPF,  the perfect natural matte lip – the Lancome Matte Lip Shaker in Energy Peach and my new favourite KIKO lippy from theirFALL 2.0 range in Rosetto. 

• Additional makeup – bold colours, brights, sparkles...

I like to add in a few makeup bits that I wouldn’t necessarily wear on a day to day basis. I like to play with my makeup when I’m at a festival so like to make sure I have a few bits to play with. For eyes the Makeup Revolution Acid Brights palette is perfect for adding a pop of colour. I adore the Barry M Metallic Lip Kits for this too. Each kit comes with a lip liner and liquid lipstick and they last for so long which is key for festival season. There are so many stunning shades, but I think Prestige a gorgeous burgundy and 24 Carat, a golden copper might just be my favourites.

• Glitter and glitter glue 

This one is key this year. The glitter trend seems to be getting bigger and bigger every year, so don’t go without it. It’s your chance to get as sparkly as you want. Grab a mixture, Barry M do great fine glitters like their Glitter Rush Body Glitters or their Fine Glitter Dusts. They have an incredible shade range – I’m obsessed with Moonstone and Enchanted Forest. If you’re after something a little chunkier, then I’d recommend getting your hands on the Beauty Blvd Star Dust sets, they each come with a stunning glitter mix, a fixer gel and a brush to apply it with – great if you’re looking just to pick up one. Otherwise Ebay absolutely kills it. You don’t usually know about the quality until it arrives but if quantity is what your after for not much expense then your in the right place. If you want to add a little more glitter into your makeup look itself then the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows are perfect. They apply like nothing else and last all day long. 

• Coloured hair sprays 

I love to add a little colour to my blonde ends while I’m at a festival if I’ve got the chance. The Schwarzkopf blush sprays are perfect for adding a pastel hue to the hair before you go when you use shampoo and conditioner your hair or if you’re after something a little shimmery, the Clairol Color Crave Hair Makeup is perfect – plus they have it in rose gold, and rose gold everything is always great. If you’re looking for something a little more natural though, EVERPRObeauty have a great range of blonde and brunette shades to keep your hair looking fresh and vibrant while away.

• Spare nail polish and file

For nails I swear by getting gel or shellac done before you go, but pack a polish with you for any last minute touch ups. You want good nails and this is the best way. I am obsessed with the ESSIE polish in 503 right now. For gels however, I’ll be heading along to London Grace salon to get one of their glitter gel manis before I go.

• Hairbrush 

Get something portable like the Tangle Teezer or a fold away Denman brush. I can’t live without my Tangle Teezer though... 

• Dry Shampoo

A festival essential. Do not forget it. This year I’ll be bringing along the TIGI Catwalk Dry Shampoo – it gives volume and keeps my hair looking fresh at the same time. 

• Toothbrush and toothpaste

I adore taking a Sonic Chic Toothbrush with me. It comes with a lid and is battery powered and works perfectly for cleaning teeth at the campsite.

• Wipes

A key festival purchase for keeping fresh when camping. I usually grab a mixture – the Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes are great, as are just generic baby wipes. Ladies, pick up a pack of the Fem Fresh wipes too, they usually come in mini packs with a printed festival design on. 

• Deodorant, body spray and perfume

Anything to keep you fresh and smelling good. Whatever is your favourite works.

• Mini skincare items  

It’s super important to look after my skin as much as I can when I’m at a festival. With all the drinking and eating, I like to do what I can. I will be packing a Mini Garnier Micellar Water, the Mini Liz Earle Try MeKit which includes a few of my all-time skincare favourites including the Cleanse and Polish and Eye Bright. I’ll also be bringing the Nip & Fab Glycolic Acid Daily Cleansing pads for a skin boost. For a boost in the morning though, I love using the Merci Handy Refreshing Face Mist.

• Lip balm

Keeping your lips hydrated while sleeping often in the cold is super important. I adore the Liz Earle Superskin Lip Balm at the moment. It’s small and works perfectly.

• Hand sanitiser

This one is super important. You want it to be portable and you want it to work as there isn’t usually any hand washing facilities at festivals. I adore the Aesop Resurrection Rinse-Free Hand Wash. 

• SPF

This is super important, even if you don’t think it’s that sunny. Pop some on at the start of the day and keep a small one on your person while you’re wondering around. My favourite for this is the Elizabeth ArdenEight Hour Cream Targeted Sun Protection Stick.

• First aid kit

Stuff this with plasters, ibuprofen, berocca and hayfever tablets.

• Insect Repellent

If you’re camping in a field or near a woods, it’s a good bet to bring this with you unless you want to be bitten alive.

• Razor

Get rid of any unwanted fuzz quickly. I swear by the Gilette Venus Snap Razor as it comes in a handy case. 

• Hair ties and grips

For tying back your hair when you can't physically keep it down anymore... 

• Cotton pads/buds

For removing your makeup at the end of the day or sorting out any makeup mistakes.

• Mirror

I like to bring a big travel mirror. Getting ready in the morning is fun so I like to have a good mirror to see what I'm doing with. 

General Festival Essentials

• Tickets

Do not forget these...

• Portable phone chargers

An essential. I always bring a few so I can keep taking snaps and find my friends when needed without having to worry about running low on battery. 

• ID

For buying drinks etc. 

• Money/bank card

For food, drinks and god knows what else.

• Phone/Camera

 You want to remember it, no matter how many drinks you have... 

Camping Essentials

• Tent

I like to go for a pop up tent for ease. I’d just recommend making sure it’s definitely waterproof if you’re going to a music festival in the UK and also make sure it’s big enough, because you need to fit your stuff in there too. 

• Sleeping bag & travel pillow

You can get away with the travel pillow if you don't have the room. Just use clothes, but if you can find the space for a pillow lover like me, it really does make the difference. 

• Inflatable mattress and electric pump

Again something you can go without if you really don't have the space but it really helps with getting a good nights sleep. 

• Camping chair

Trust me on this one, I know it just seems like another thing to carry but having a chair to sit in is the best thing when your camping.

• Light/torches

For seeing what your doing in your tent without losing precious battery on your phone.

• Rubber mallet

This makes putting the pegs into the ground so much easier and quicker. 

• Bin bags and Gaffa tape

This is perfect for anything, they will come in handy.

• Trolley

These are incredibly useful for carrying heavy booze but also your too-big tent. If the floor is dry you can just drag it along, so helpful. If it’s super wet however, that’s just another story...

Fashion Essentials

• Enough outfits for the time your there & accessories

Bring a few extra tops etc. too just in case. Also think about layers. Bring jackets, jumpers and cardigans etc to keep warm at night. 

• Rain coat

Especially if you’re going to be in England

• Wellies and wellie socks

Don't forget the socks, if you don't have long socks your wellies will rub and they will be a nightmare. I have a cheap pair of wellies if the weather is that constant rain and the mud literally goes up to your knees. If you can get away with something shorter though, I love my Blundstone's. They're super comfortable and I love how similar they look to my usual Chelsea Boots. 

• Bikini

If you need to use the showers etc.

• Sunglasses

For when your praying for some sun... Your outside all day long so likely (or hopefully) you will need a pair

• Pyjamas and sleep mask/ear plugs if needed

Depending on how easily you get to sleep it depends on how much you'll need all of this, I'm good with sound but will definitely bring along my favourite Iluminage Eye Mask. 

• Small backpack or bum bag

 Big enough to put all your stuff in for the day but small enough to actually carry around. 

Food and Drink Essentials

• Snacks

Anything from crisps to cereal bars or brioche buns. Anything that is likely not to get too crushed but will keep you going when your at your campsite. Cream crackers for hangovers are a god send too.

• Alcohol

In cans or plastic. Whatever your choice, just decant it if needed. If you go for wine or a spirit and mixer make sure to bring plastic cups or bottles to decant it into. 

• Chewing gum/mints

For staying fresh. Essential. 

 And that's it.... Well, it's pretty much all I can think of anyway. I just wanted to say a little thank you to Push Doctor for sending me a brilliant package that inspired this post. Usually I just chuck a load of stuff into a bag and don't really think about making a physical list for others to read. The Shampoo & Conditioner Brand That Always Get It Right

Shampoo and conditioner isn't something I always think about. I am always trying out something new  but rarely do I think about what I have loved and what I haven't but lately I've noticed one brand always in my shower as they just get it right every single time - and to prove that, I use every single one up until the end! Hello empties. 

OGX Beauty are the hair care brand in question. They have a huge range of shampoo and conditioner duos that hero a different ingredient to target a specific concern. I have used so many and I have adored using each range. They smell incredible and make my hair feel like nothing else does - the best bit though? It's so budget friendly that you don't have to break the bank for great hair. The range is available on the high street (in Boots, Superdrug etc.) and are £6.99 each - they often go on offer though, so keep your eyes peeled for those. 

Favourites include the Coconut Water range as it smells incredible and isn't too heavy on my hair. It hydrates my hair so well but is still light enough to not way it down. The Coconut Milk range (pictured) is also incredible for that reason - it's a little more hydrating though so if you need an extra boost, I'd definitely opt for this one. If you love a floral scent, you need to try the Tsubaki Blossom range. This leaves my hair so soft, in fact potentially the softest of the all of the ranges. It blends Japanese Tsubaki blossom with bamboo oil to create a 'petal-soft' texture on the hair and that it does. 

In the summer, my favourite range to use is the Sea Mineral Moisture range. I adore it for when I've been out in the sun all day or at the beach especially, as it gets super dry and the texture of it goes completely wrong. If I can I'll use this one as it turns my brittle hair super soft and back to normal - and it smells perfect for summer holidays and reminds me of the beach. 

Generally, I rotate a lot of them just to give a new one a go as they all leave my hair feeling incredible - and as they're so budget friendly you don't have to worry about trying several too much. Other favourites include the Argan Oil of Morocco Extra Strength and Keratin Oil. Put it this way, I've never tried one that I haven't liked....

The 'In Between' Salon Solution You Need To Try

When it comes to haircare, I look for things that are quick and instant and my hair colour goes alongside that. Never have I coloured the entirety of my hair for the lack of options to tide me over during those 'in between' times when I can't get to the salon (or don't want to pay for it so soon!). Each also come in three shades - but these cover much further than that due to the Self-Adjusting Colour Technology embedded in the product. 

I know, I know - I usually roll my eyes at these claims too but you can literally see it when you look at the product, especially the powder as you can see it directly in the compact. It glistens in the light and it is filled with different tones, which makes it incredibly natural when applied to the hair - and the spray is the same.

My Mum swears by the ZERO GREY range to cover up her roots and now uses it all the time.I'd recommend getting your hands on both of the products for your shade as they are so budget friendly. But if you want to try one out first, give the powder a go - the adorable compact is my favourite as it comes with a mirror and applicator sponge in the packaging but it's still super portable. 

This really is one of those problems that I have never seen a 'fix' for be done well, but I adore this and for my Mum to love it really is saying something!

Oily Skin SOS

Struggling with oily skin? So was the skincare tester I've recruited to do a bit of testing for me. When a skin concern comes up against you in full force, generally it can be blooming hard to know what to do. That's where my SOS series comes in. I'm delving in deep to skincare concerns to let you know what are the best products out there to combat your concern. First up: oily skin. 

The best cleansers for oily skin

I'm a self-confessed skincare junkie, so I often like to have a few cleanser options to give me choice when it comes to cleansing in the morning or evening. My tester and I have narrowed down 5 of the best.

Omorovicza Moor Cream Cleanser, £49

Yes, it's expensive but everything about it makes it worthwhile. If you like a cream cleanser but want something with a bit more "oomph", then this is definitely going to be your cup of tea. Launched in February, this cleanser detoxifies, purifies and has anti-microbial properties. It's filled with one of Omorivicza's most effective (and unique) ingredients - their Hungarian Moor mud which is best known for its skin-perfecting properties as it's used within several products in the range. So if you're already a big Omorovicza fan like I am, then chances are you'll love this for that reason only. 

The mud works to cleanse and exfoliate the skin, and the essential oils also included in the cleanser hydrate and soothe. Just because you have oily skin doesn't mean you need to steer completely clear of oil and hydration! This cleanser helps to reduce the oil alongside your pore size - if that's something you're struggling with too while also leaving your skin feeling revitalised and refreshed.  If the price is a problem, pick it up as a treat and keep it as your cleanser for when you really need a skin boost or for special occasions. 

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel For Oily Sensitive Skin, £11.50

If you love a foaming action - or the rest of the La Roche-Posay Effaclar range then you're going to love this. It's a gentle, gel-based cleanser that deeply cleans the skin and is the perfect start to your skincare regime - both in the morning and in the evening. It leaves skin feeling oil-free but without stripping the skin at all. 

Aveda Botanical Kinetics Purifying Gel Cleanser, £18 for 150ml

Another cleanser for the foam lovers out there. This gel cleanser from Aveda is formulated for normal to oily skin and works in a very similar way to the LRP one I mentioned before. If you don't always struggle with oily skin then this could be a good option to go for. It's gentle, and removes makeup and cleanses the skin so well. Ingredients include Vitamin E, coconut, chamomile, lavender and rosemary that works to protect the skin from damaging free radicals and soothe the skin at the same time. 

Bioderma Sebium Purifying Cleansing Foaming Gel, £10.50 for 200ml

Another foaming gel option - and this one is especially great if you also suffer from acne/blemishes alongside oil. This cleanser is soap-free and non-comedogenic and is designed to be used on the problematic areas of your skin and body. It's patented with Fluidactiv® sebum-correcting complex and this makes sure that the sebum is a better quality on the skin which reduces breakouts.

Ole Henriksen Aloe Vera Deep Cleanser, £21

First things first, I adore the bright and bold packaging of this cleanser from Ole Henriksen. Much like all of the other Ole Henriksen product packaging actually. It's beautiful! This cleanser is designed for acne prone and oily skin and for use at both morning and night. It's filled with aloe vera to heal the skin, chamomile to soothe and the other ingredients each have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and healing properties. This is a 360-degree cleanser and you'll really notice the difference. 

The best toners for oily skin

Ole Henriksen Grease Relief Facial Water, £18

Following on from the Ole Henriksen Aloe Vera Deep Cleanser, this toner is the perfect second step in your skincare routine. Again with the same, bright and bold packaging, this facial water is quickly spritzed onto the skin and it reduces shine and refreshes skin giving it a natural glow - without the excess oil. If you need a boost throughout the day, give this a spritz over your makeup for a skin boost.

The best moisturisers for oily skin

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel, £18

This Moisturiser from Clinique is an oil-free take on the infamous (and personal favourite of mine) Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturiser. It's a gel based hydrator that is light on the skin but hydrates while removing excess oil and leaving skin smooth and comfortable. It works perfectly for day and night. 

Bioderma Sebuim Moisturising Mattifying Fluid, £11.50

If you're after something that's more directly mattifying and a cream-gel texture over the gel specific hydrator then this is a good bet especially if you struggle with acne or blemishes- or are a fan of the Bioderma cleanser I mentioned earlier in this feature. This is a small tube, but a little goes a long way so don't worry about that. It's perfect if your skin is really on the worst end of the spectrum. 

Voya Even Pure Light Calming Moisturiser, £53

This 95% certified organic moisturiser, albeit expensive, is really lovely. It's light and calming as the name says but it's the fact that it still hydrates my skin that is the reason this moisturiser has got me hook, line and sinker. Not only that, but it replenishes the skin with the essential vitamins, minerals and hydration leaving the skin perfectly balanced, reducing sebum along the way. This is a perfect hydrator, if you don't want to overload your skin with a heavy cream. 

Institut Esthederm Intensive Propolis Cream, £33

If you struggle with oily, acne-prone skin - you need to give this moisturiser ago. It's highly concentrated and while hydrating and working as a moisturiser, it also works as an antiseptic to heal and decongest the skin. It soothes and actively eliminates the bacteria flora on the surface on the skin. 

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+] SPF 30, £16.50

My boyfriend's favourite facial SPF, the Effeclar Duo [+] SPF 30 really does live up to the hype. This hydrator has all of the benefits of the cult favourite, La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo but with added SPF. It's perfect for this time of year and doesn't overload the skin but protects from sun damage and pollution - a must for busy London life!

The best face masks for oily skin

Roger & Gallet Extra-Fine Cleansing Mask, £17

I absolutely adore the packaging of the Roger & Gallet skincare - it's so beautiful. Packaging aside, the product inside most definitely doesn't disappoint either. This cleansing mask can be used on all skin tones but with its 95% natural ingredients, it works perfectly on oily skin too. It removes makeup, detoxifies the skin while adding radiance. It's perfect for a deep cleanse at the end of a busy day! 

Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Oil-Control Cleansing Mask, £24

The name pretty much says it all. If you're struggling with blemishes and oil at the same time, this is the perfect pampering product for healing blemishes, preventing breakouts and keeping the skin shine-free. It's a clay based mask and is perfect for a deep pore cleanse.

La Roche Posay Unclogging Purifying Sebo-Controlling Anti-Shine Mask, £13

La Roche Posay absolutely nails it with every skincare launch. This face mask is specifically targeted at oily, spot and blackhead-prone skin. It deeply cleanses the skin and unclogs pores while controlling the shine. If I can get my boyfriend to use a face mask, it's this one as the clay mask is so effective on his oil-prone skin. LRP has done it again! 

The best budget skincare range for oily skin

The Body Shop is a brand I constantly rave about on here. Virtually everything I've ever tried from them I have loved and it's a brand that has very much taken me through the years. I have mentioned a few times that I worked in store when I was a lot younger and that was most definitely one of the reasons my love of beauty expanded and my knowledge of products extended. The Body Shop's seaweed range has always been one of their best ranges. I've only ever heard good things - including when I worked in store. Everyone loved it and that hasn't changed. There are quite a lot of products in the range, so it could be worth popping in-store to have a play, but here are the products we recommend. 

The Body Shop Seaweed Cleansing Gel Wash, £7.50

This cleanser is oil-free and soap-free making it perfect to combat your problematic oily skin. The gel-based cleanser is mineral rich and cleanses deeply leaving your skin shine-free but also super refreshed. It's incredibly affordable, I love the new packaging and it really does everything it needs to. 

The Body Shop Seaweed Oil Balancing Toner, £7.50

After cleansing, this oil balancing toner works additionally to cleanse impurities and refresh the skin. It's alcohol-free so not stripping but works to rebalance the skin and keep the oil at bay. 

The Body Shop Seaweed Oil-Control Overnight Treatment, £14

A lot of people I know that have oily skin say that the night is the worst. If they don't use something overnight to combat the oil, then they're starting the day with a problem that only gets worse throughout the day. This overnight treatment from The Body Shop is applied after toning and is left on overnight, much like you would a night cream or moisturiser. It feels light on the skin - not like some overnight masks. It's not drying but clears up the oil and is little goes a long way so the product will last well.

The best candles for your home

I feel like I write here too often that I'm obsessed with a certain thing. In fact, I'm currently drafting a skincare post alongside this candle feature and I've already written about my skincare obsession in that one but when starting this feature, it felt so natural to begin it by expressing my love of candles (and subsequently my candle obsession). There's just something about them that gets me. From the packaging, usually super luxurious to the scents themselves. 

There are so many candles out there - from brands, to scents and packaging that gives me the "gotta catch em all" kind of vibe which is where my hoarding comes into play. I wouldn't even want to know how many candles I have stashed in my current home. I'm moving next month, so I'm using it as an excuse as I'll need to fill a whole flat with them and not just my bedroom in my current shared house. Put it this way, if I look around my room right now, I can see 13 - and that's not including the ones I know are stashed away in other hidden places.  I just blooming love them. 

My favourite thing is trying out a new candle and with that, I've very much tried most of them out there so I know which are the best to pick up. From luxury to affordable and from enormous to mini, here are my candle picks. Get yourself a cuppa tea, I can feel a long one coming on. 

Jo Malone Green Tomato Leaf Home Candle, £44

Jo Malone candles are probably one of the candles I get the most excited about and ever since I first smelt the Green Tomato Leaf scent I have been in love. I'd heard great things, but you don't really know if it's going to be for you until you really give it a smell for yourself. This scent is fresh, fruity, earthy and so clean. I absolutely adore it - it's my current favourite day time scent. If you've tried a Jo Malone candle before, then you'll know about the incredible quality - but if you don't, the burn quality, scent pay off and packaging make the price so worthwhile. 

"Glasshouse tomatoes. Earthy, leafy and full of sunshine. Crisp with stem-green galbanum. Lively with artemesia, fruity with cassis, resting on a cushion of moss. Tangy and evocative."

Timothy Dunn Tiger Eye Home Candle, £36

If you're a candle fan, chances are you're always on the hunt for a new home fragrance brand and if you've not tried it yet, Timothy Dunn is the one. Their candles are so luxurious and the scents are different to what I've tried before. My absolute favourite is Tiger Eye. It comes in beautiful luxurious black packaging and feels like an absolute treat. It's quite a grown up scent and actually was one of the first I got my hands on since my Yankee Candle Apple candle days. Its warming and I adore burning this in the evening. The quality is amazing and I'm feeling the need to pick up a new scent as they all sound amazing!

Top notes: Orange Blossom, Petitgrain, Jasmine

Heart notes: Lily, Cyclamen, Sandalwood

Base notes: Vanilla, Amberwood, Patchouli

Cochine Saigon Scented Candle in Vietnamese Rose & Delentii, £45

The thing that first gets me about the Cochine Saigon candles is the beautiful packaging. It's a metallic silver glass candle and feels so so luxurious. I fell in love with this brand for the luxurious packaging and it's what's kept me going back to the candle I've got in my stash time and time again. I've got the Vietnamese Rose & Delentii scent and although it is nice, and I can appreciate it it's not really my cup of tea completely. I adore it for the packaging but this scent is not very me. If you love rose, you'll love this but if not I'd suggest giving one of the others a go. I am already eyeing up the other candles in the range, especially Vanille & Tabac Noir, Juniper & Ginger and Tuberose & Wild Fig - as I need to get this beautiful packaging in some other scents. Perhaps I could pick them up as a new house treat?

Annick Goutal Eau D'Hadrien Candle, £45

Again for this one, it was the packaging that got me. The branded gold embossing on the candle glass has an incredibly luxurious feel which is what I absolutely love. The scent of the candle is incredible. It's citrus-esque but with a slight spice it. It burns beautifully and 

Top notes: Sicilian Lemon, Grapefruit

Heart notes: Citron, Green Mandarin, Ylang Ylang

Base notes: Cypress, Bergamot

Liz Earle Eucalyptus and Rosemary Botanical Candle, £40

Liz Earle has been one of my favourite beauty brands for many years. In fact, probably since around the time I actually started getting into beauty and blogging. I fell in love with their Cleanse and Polish  ad have subsequently fallen in love with everything else I've ever tried from them since - candle included. The Eucalyptus and Rosemary candle is incredible. It has great scent pay off and if you love a clean, fresh scent this is perfect for you. It's inspired by the botanicals in the Cleanse and Polish, so if you love that then you'll probably love this. This one is going straight in my bathroom in my new place and I can't wait to find it a spot and relax in the bath with it burning.  

Top notes: Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Birch, Cypress, Pine Needle, Black Pepper

Heart notes: Amber

Base notes: Patchouli, Vetiver

this works Deep Sleep Heavenly Candle, £25

I've got into the routine of burning a specific scented candle in the evening before bed, and this is one of those. The calming scent really relaxes me before bed - especially when paired with their pillow mist. It's on the affordable side of the candle spectrum which is great considering I pretty much burn this every night. It's simple with its white packaging and looks perfect in the bedroom. It's a little sexier than the usual lavender-esque sleep candle. which makes for a nice change and is probably why I love it so much. 

Notes: Lavender, Chamomile 

Aromatherapy Associates Relax Candle, £38

Again, like the this works candle, this is one of my other pre-sleep candle go-to's. If you love the Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax bath oil scent, you'll love this. It's intense on the relaxing front and is my favourite if I need calming down or if I've had a long day. It's luxurious, I adore the brand and my love of their products doesn't stop here. 

Notes: West Indian Bay, Myrrh

Orla Kiely Geranium Scented Candle, £25

I have loved Orla Kiely candles for so long. As a self-confessed big fan of Orla Kiely in general I had always dreamed of owning some of their pieces and in fact I think the now discontinued, Orla Kiely Rhubarb candle was one of my first, if not the first luxurious home fragrance buys I got my hands on. I fell in love with the beautiful Orla Kiely designed glass on the candle and that is what keeps me going back every time. Their packaging is iconic and their candles don't disappoint either. The one I got recently is the Geranium scent and it's beautiful. A little girlier, but fresh and a go-to day time scent for me at the moment. 

Notes: White Geranium, Eucalyptus and Clary Sage

Mini Moderns Paisley Crescent Candle, £24

Again, much like the Orla Kiely candles it's the unique design of the Mini Moderns candles that made me fall in love with them. The Paisley candle not only has a beautiful bold design but it smells incredible. It's a little more on the masculine side compared to some of my other favourites but that's why I love it so much. It's warming and so beautiful. Even my boyfriend loves it. 

 

If you're a gin fan or are after something a bit fresher, you need to smell the Mini Moderns Pavilion Candle, £24 - its light and fresh and so delicious and will be right up your street. 

Notes: Jasmine, Orange blossom and hints of Cardamom

Neom Happiness Scented Candle (3 Wicks), £45

Neom candles are some of my all time favourites and in fact, I couldn't even tell you when they first came into my life. I've had many Neom candles as generally they are some of the best I've ever burnt (plus they have great customer service if you have any problems)! Their scent range is always on pointbut my current obsession is the Happiness scent. It relaxes me but it's so uplifting at the same time. It boosts my mood and there's just something about the three wick candles that get me excited in their own right. 

Another of my favourites from the brand is the Neom Christmas Wish Candle (3 Wicks), £45. It's not currently available but it's been out for the last two years and is the best festive candle I've tried. Yes, I have a stock of it. Yes, I have two already stashed away for Christmas this year and yes, I can't wait to burn them.

Yankee Candle Linden Tree Small Jar Candle, £8.99

When it comes to Yankee Candle's, I hate to pick which is why I love their small jar candles. They are affordable and you can pick up a few to see which is your favourite before purchasing one of the larger ones. At the moment my favourite is definitely the Linden Tree scent as it smells like freshly washed clothes or a fresh summers day. If you're looking for a few others to pick up, I'd recommend the Yankee Candle Wild Mint scent or the Yankee Candle Cherry Blossom scent.

Heart notes: Viburnum 

Base notes: Musk, Cedarwood
