Eating in London: Clapham Tandoori

I love a good Indian. I can't say I always have and I honestly can't tell you what changed but something did and I went from being that girl that couldn't stand any spice (thinking even some Korma's were spicy) to being able to handle a fair bit enjoying jalapeños and red chilli in basically anything. I love a bit of a kick and since have been really loving an Indian every now and again.

I have a couple of favourite Indian restaurants that are my go to - Blue Ginger in Harrow (London) and my ultimate fave The Goa in Wiltshire so any other restaurant has a lot to live up to and if it can live up to my house mate Dina's mum's curries then even better.

I'm always looking for other favourites to add to my list and so when I was invited down to Clapham Tandoori* to try out their restaurant and of course I was game. Upon arrival I was a little sceptic, but then again I don't really judge an indian restaurant by the look of it. They all have a kind of similar look and I think it's just scoping out the good food from the bad, as at the end of the day that's what it's about isn't it?

We ordered a couple poppadoms, because you just can't not right? The bits served alongside them (pictured first) were pretty tasty with the creamy one and the mango chutney being my favourite. I don't know what the creamy one is, but if you order poppadoms from indian restaurants then you'll know what I mean but it just tastes so bloody good. I'm obsessed.

usually take the poppadoms as the starter as I always find indian meals to be so filling and would often take a bit away to eat the next day so we skipped the starters and went straight to the mains ordering the King Prawn Biriani (pictured second) and the Karachi Crab Bhuna (pictured above) alongside some Pilau Rice, a Garlic and Coriander Naan and a Chilli Cheese Naan. The Biriani was the star of the show and I don't know how the prawns or that rice was cooked but trust me it was something special. I love a Garlic and Coriander Naan as I'm totes obsessed with both garlic and coriander and the Chilli Cheese Naan was nice also but the G&C one was way better and I won't make the mistake of veering away from it again. At The Goa, my usual fave indian I always order the King Prawn Bhuna so was really interested to try something else Bhuna-ified and although it wasn't as great as my favourite it was still pretty delicious and alongside the Prawns in the Biriani was amazing.

Clapham Tandoori is a great place to go if you're looking for a good Indian meal and it's definitely a safe bet if you don't want to risk trying somewhere else. The only thing I would say is that the loud music and the matching music videos on the screens dotted around the space were a little distracting and so if you're not up for a louder atmosphere then I'd steer clear. A little more expensive than some restaurants, and I'm not sure if that's really justified when it does come down to the entire experience and do just be aware that the prices online don't all match up to those in the menu's in the restaurant. The service though was great and like I said so was the food.

If you're looking for a safe bet Indian restaurant then Clapham Tandoori should be up your street and even more of a bonus if you're local to Clapham.

  2. Yummm I do love a good indian as well! This is pretty local to me so definitely need to give it a try. I was the same with chilli, never used to like hot things and now I add chilli to pretty much everything, strange isn't it! xx
